I was wondering whether anybody was working on a re-creation of The Titanic for The Ship?
I know this boat has seen lots of commotion... but a game called The Ship just has to have it, it's like a law! :D

I was a free weekend player and don't have a credit card but I plan to buy it when it goes retail.
So I could start work on it then, which should be rather soon I think.

If nobody is doing this yet, I'm all up for it!
Where's the 'unofficial' SDK and how well does it really work?

I'm quite familiar with Hammer from Counter-Strike Source so I've got a good understanding of what can and can't be done :)

That's great to know!
How much does it cost?

Wel, the only store right now is GameMania, and in some cities they'll probably still need to come in, but you can see our price on this dutch website

this is the belgian gamemania site but they dont show much info, only that it's available (just type 'The Ship' and you'll see the info)

I need to know whether this is being done already but more importantly what/where the editor is for The Ship?
If someone from Outerlight themself would be able to answer these with certainty I'd appreciate it.

Afterall there's a developer customer on the line here and I'm all psyched up to do this! :)

There's no offical sdk yet we will release one but can't say when exactly. There is an unoffical sdk here - Unoffical sdk (http://forum.theshiponline.com/showthread.php?t=2699&highlight=sdk)

The editor will be Hammer.

Thanks for the reponse, reading about it I think I'm going to wait a little until the official SDK gets released, I don't want to take any chances with a project the size of The Titanic, i'm sure that's understandable. Ofcourse it gives me ample time to plan and research :)

I was wondering, would it be possible for me to construct this in Hammer with the setup for...Counter-Strike Source let's presume here for a minute.

Could I transfer all my CSG over flawlessly to The Ship?
When the official SDK comes out all I'll need to do is The Ship specific textures/models and game logic and I'd be done.

Are the player dimensions identical to CSS?
Because scale is a really important factor.

Hope to here back from you!

Yup, scale is consistent with CS:S/HL2, so you shouldn't have any troubles building your level in one of those for the time being. Most of the core entities and special purpose textures are the same, so you should be able to do your basic architecture, lighting, spawn points, clips/hints/area portals, and so on and port it over. Be aware that a lot of your brushwork may depend on the props to support it so don't get too carried away with things as you may find you need to make a lot of changes to accomodate them. Doors, for example, will need to be the right size.

You might wanna read this thread to get a few more bits of info...

Excellent. I'm still very thrilled to develop for The Ship, I love the gameplay.
Though I'll likely step back on the Titanic. You're right, it is over-done ;)

there is absolutely no risk in working on this project on my SDK...the files will be completely transferrable

Really? So I can put in all the game specific items? I need not install any .net framework either?

it has every part of the game mapped out

no .net needed in the latest SDK release too
