All in the title.

Sure this has been suggested before, but I cant find any live threads discussing it.

There'd be issues with shops and money and such in a Cluedo-style "you-are-all-invited-to-a-party" scenario, where you'd not expect to have to buy anything, but what about a big gothic hotel or guesthouse/mansion?

I think the Ship's bright environments do a lot to offset the tension of being hunted, but a sinister haunted mansion style map could really enhance it. If there were only one bar and lounge with toilets, one resteraunt with kitchen, a couple of shops at the reception, and a dozen or so rooms with en-suites it'd be great for smaller numbers of players. Could have an open garden with a maze with weapons at the centre or something to broaden the playing field for highter player counts, or even a library or cellar with some macabre secret area.

Just turning over ideas really.

It has indeed been suggested before, but i really like the idea of hunting or eliminating in a spooky mansion, so i totally back you up in this thread! :D

I would be up for a change of atmosphere myself... but I think we should stick to the name of the game and use things that are ships of some kind. So some middle-ground: a spooky/dark and decadent ghost ship?

Just an idea...

I don't think this would really work, afterall, it's called "The Ship", not "The House". ;)

How about a remake of the big mansion in one of Stephen Kings books. I can't remember the name of the book but I know they made a movie of it...

If the mansion is big enough, you won't need shops and restaurants. You can steal clothes and food from all over the mansion...

You might be thinking of the Overlook Hotel from The Shining - I really badly want to make this as a map, it's a massive old hotel up in the mountains that gets snowed in every winter, it also has a big hedge maze outside and indoors it would fit the game perfectly, except that it isn't a ship :(

I might have to do it anyway as it would be a truly great map :D

That's exactly the one!

I don't think that this game should be limited to only ships... I think it started off with a ship and it sticked... Now it's time to think out of the box! The Overlook Hotel would be the ultimate map for this game! Imagine the possibilities!

All the places you can put secret places and traps and the MAZE! Imagine what fun can be had with the maze!

Awesome idea!

Love the thought of a hedge maze.

The reason I disagree with this is because I find that with a ship you can't leave the ship...other than the water...yet in a house you can only wonder why you wouldn't just leave.

I think the Ship part is what gives it a cool feeling.

If there will be any land map it will be a boat dock or a stationary boat and the dock.

Can't say that for sure.

It all depends on what people do with the SDK.

Please make it. Mr. X is rediculously rich anyways so he can buy anything he wants, even is it is some huge run-down haunted hotel.

yea i know what you mean but all these maps like the big hotel the airship and the train dont exactly fit in but you can make them because the whole idea is that you have been invited to stay on a ship so why not change it so you have been invited to stay on a train airship or ski resort hotel but they must all be a 1920s theme

Just put it on a big barge! Floating in the middle of the ocean!

Synergy solved!

It fits perfectly... When the game was first created, the main idea was that the players should feel the sense that they are trapped and have no other choice but to kill or be killed... The Ship is meant for more than just 1920's replicas... It gets boring and lame after a while.. . DOD: S was made for WWII scenarios, but a lot of maps resemble quite the opposite. The game is still fun though...

The Ship has so much potential. The Airship, The Mansion and all almost all of the other map ideas would be awesome.

Remember, just because the game's name is The Ship, doesn't mean it's limited to boats, liferafts and cruiseships... A great game is all about creativity and "thinking outside the box".

Amen.

Well I have to say that a game like The Ship should really stick to its original theme. Which is their nineteen twenties cruise ships. Oh, and I hate what they did with DoD. There are no halo map replicas in WWII, get over it.

Although I disagree that the Ship should change its theme I think it can still be done. After all, the team has always had the possibility of a sequel in mind, so instead of "The Ship 2" it could be called something else that's more vague and leaves the door open for a variety of scenarios. OR they could make ANOTHER single player story mode that might explain the new maps and fit them in nicely. After all, it's really hard to sell a multiplayer game, what people want is a good single player with a great multiplayer attached. If the team needs someone to write a story for it I'd be more than willing to volunteer my services free of charge ;) d

If you take a rich manor/hotel it will have a very similar map design to a boat if we talk about the inside. So the biggest difference that you'll notice is the map name and some rooms but that's all.

The Ship is suited for several types of maps, possibly as long as it keeps within it's 1920's theme and manor/hotels is one of them. :)

The sort of cruise liners The Ship is set on were designed to model the comfort of such houses.

If you replaced the portholes with windows and removed the briny most rooms wouldn't look out of place.
